Meta is an augmented reality headset, and is the most cost effective way to see what lies ahead for augmented reality. The most interesting thing about this headset, besides its lower price point and visibility relative to the other headsets, is the involvement of the augmented reality pioneer Steve Mann.

The initial Meta 1 Developer Kit was available through a Kickstarter campaign for $550 and up. It is no longer available from the site, and oddly, it isn’t even available on eBay. That is a bit more than a little surprising, but moving on…

The Meta 2 Development Kit will cost you $ 949.00 to pre-order now. Here’s a video of the founder of the company giving a TED talk about it.

Technically, no one can get this “yet,” but it is cool enough technology to include anyway.
